betPawa owner Mchezo picks Rwanda as base for its client services HQ

15th JUNE 2023…Mchezo Limited - a Rwanda-based company - has announced the launch of its global headquarters in Kigali to turbocharge its business growth plans for Africa. 

The company, which is the owner of the gaming brand betPawa in Africa, says the move is geared at better positioning it to pursue and consolidate partnerships in sports, technology, financial inclusion and community empowerment. 

The move is drawn from some of the successes achieved so far by betPawa through its sponsorships and projects, which include being the official headline sponsor of Ghana’s betPawa Premier League and the community-based Dream Maker campaign in Zambia, Tanzania, Ghana and Kenya among others. 

Mchezo Managing Director for Africa, Ntoudi Mouyelo said the launch of the Rwanda headquarters shows the company’s confidence in the country and continent. 

This is in line with the company’s efforts to create opportunities and a long-lasting positive impact by playing its part in supporting a vibrant sports ecosystem, technology advancement in financial inclusion, innovations and investing in communities. 

Mchezo also aims to capitalise on the fast-rising adoption of technology and financial services in Africa to promote and expand the sports sector. 

“Our new headquarters give us more room to support governments, sports federations, businesses, sports careers and communities by pursuing partnerships that align with our vision,” Mouyelo said during the launch ceremony held at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel in Kigali. 

“The Rwandan government has very solid and robust sport advancement and investment policies that power the Africa-rising concept. We are here to amplify potential in sports investment, talent development, responsible gaming, and technological innovation. 

Africa, Mouyelo said, has a lot of investment potential to spur job creation, innovation and technological advancement which if harnessed can support sustainable economic growth, adding that sport can be a key driver to achieving this. 

Following the launch of the Kigali headquarters, Mchezo will launch initiatives in financial literacy, sport, technology, skills and talent development as well as inclusion. 

Mouyelo also disclosed that the company will soon unveil two major sport partnerships to kick off the new development drive, hinting at working with Rwanda’s Basketball governing body - FERWABA and supporting of world class individual sporting activities across Africa such taekwondo in Lesotho who will see their bright star Michelle Tau attend the Paris 2024 Olympics to represent the nation. 

The high-profile event was attended by sports personalities and legends, government officials including Rwanda Trade and Industry Minister Dr. Jean Chrysostome Ngabitsinze, Lesotho’s Sports Minister Pitso Lesaoana, Cameroonian-born French boxer Carlos Takam and Africa Super League CEO Andrea Silva among others.
